Hard Times Du Impress

Top 5 at the 2009 Paint World championship Show

5th Place

Hard Times Du Impress better know as "Patches" has shown his wonderful disposition and athletic abilities right from the start.  His very first outing was to the 2008 Pinto World Championship Show after only 8 months of reining training with Kyle Schurig.  He was the Reserve Champion out of 23 head.

2010 Pinto World - Reserve World Champion Amateur Reining Horse
Reserve World Champion Open Reining Horse

Top Ten finalist, 2009 North American Affiliate Championships, TRHA Year End High Point Limited Open Champion and Reserve Intermediate Open Champion for 2009.

Patches is by Hard Times Ilusion, who is out of Total Illusion x Diamonds Du Impres.    We owned both Total Illusion and Diamonds Du Impres.   Total Illusion was out of Bright Illusion x Cozy Impression (by Impressive).   We purchased Cozy in 1985 from the Faulkner Ranch where Impressive stood at stud.  She was a yearling when we bought her.  So we have owned all the way back to Patches' great grandam.

We purchased Diamonds Du Impres from Jack Denton when she was a yearling.  Her sire Du Impress was an AHQA Champion, Superior Halter Horse by Mr Impressive x Dubie Dubie Dude and own daughter of Blondys Dude.

We sold Total Illusion (Frenchie) to Calvin Lange "Grandpa Calvin as he is fondly called" of Seguin Texas in 1992 as a weanling.  Calvin became and is still one of our dearest friends who has many, many years of experience in the horse business. He is responsible for Patches staying a stallion and going into training. It was my intention to have Patches gelded and just be a backyard pony.  But Calvin insisted that I wasn't going to get him gelded so then I bought the mustang mares for him to breed.

Patches was a very happy boy living in the pasture with his mares and babies.  He loves the babies.  He is like the best babysitter ever.  He was very protective of the babies.  But along came "Grandpa Calvin" and insisted that Patches was to good a colt to just stand around breeding that he needed to go into training.  So at the age of 3 1/2 Patches went to Doris Schurig for his initial training then on to Kyle Schurig for reining training.

As you may have noticed Patches has excelled in reining.  Yet, his pedigree has Impressive in there.  Patches has the best of both the "Halter and Performance" Worlds.  His sire is both and his dam is working bred with Mr San Peppy in her line. (click: http://www.allbreedpedigree.com)

Patches and Kyle at the NRBC Show in April 2009.  Patches sustained a stifle injury in the first rollback but he continued on and finished 8th overall.  Patches didn't show the effects of the injury for a couple of days then Kyle saw him ""kind of step wrong" and took him to the vet and they discovered he had pulled his stifle.  He had to rest for a couple of months just insure the injury healed.  It has and he is fine and continued to show.

Patches and gang after placing at the North American Affiliate Championships at Tulsa OK, November 2009.  Patches wanted to say hello to Punkin the boxer puppy.

Vicki Stauffer, Amy Stauffer and Kelly Hale all riding Patches.  If you can stay on a horse you can ride him.  Although, Patches is easy to ride he is a """Hard"" working horse.  He does everything one way - fast and full power when in the show pen.

He is the most gentle horse.   No one ever guesses he is a stallion.  He lives for hugs and kisses.  He is the darling of Kyle's barn.
